(Video) Never mind Coronavirus (with apologies to W S Gilbert)

I have updated the video to a faster pace – the first posting was lugubrious.

This angle on coronavirus comes as as a video, but in case you can’t catch all the words, I have included them below.

It does more-or-less fit the original music from HMS Pinafore. You might like to make a recording of it. If you do, please send me a copy.

Corona virus (with apologies to W S Gilbert)
Robin Ford, May 2020

verse 1
Never mind corona virus
Or the laws that now require us
Not to get within a distance of a metre and a half.
He will keep the party going – kill the fatted calf.

Wash your hands and do it often
Don’t join groups, and don’t go far.
Wait until the strict laws soften.
‘Til that day, stay where you are.

For the one with lordly bearing
And the grandmas who are caring
And the spaces we are sharing
And the old man who’s despairing.

Wash your hands and do it often
Don’t join groups and don’t go far.
Wait until the strict laws soften
‘Til that day, stay where you are.

verse 2
If you’re old the chance is higher
If you catch it you’ll expire
As statistics well have shown us, as I’m sure you will agree.
So we’ll isolate the old-folks for posterity.

Wash your hands and do it often
Don’t join groups and don’t go far.
Wait until the strict laws soften
‘Til that day, stay where you are.

How to sort out distance schooling
For that is the latest ruling.
Teacher grandma stops you fooling
And makes cakes to set you drooling.

Wash your hands and do it often
Don’t join groups and don’t go far.
Wait until the strict laws soften
‘Til that day, stay where you are.

verse 3
So unkind, corona virus
For abstaining soon will tire us
And it’s physical affection we most definitely miss.
As we leave he gives a hug and then he steals a kiss.

Wash your hands and do it often
Don’t join groups and don’t go far.
Wait until the strict laws soften
‘Til that day, stay where you are.

For we’re all fed up with waiting
And we want life reinstating
But as we have been debating
Second wave so devastating.

Wash your hands and do it often
Don’t join groups and don’t go far.
Wait until the strict laws soften
‘Til that day, stay where you are.

Repeat
Wash your hands and do it often
Don’t join groups and don’t go far.
Wait until the strict laws soften
‘Til that day, stay where you are.
