(poem) Impermanence: Deconstruction

Deconstruction

Is ‘knock ‘em down’ a game she’ll understand?
I build a tower, just in case she might
She rolls, part crawls, towards it  At her hand
My tower falls, to evident delight.
Some years ago while at a village fete,
With wooden balls - three for a small donation,
I chanced my arm and, yes! I smashed a plate!
My only prize  - a visceral sensation.
But ‘knock ‘em down’ is also ‘build ‘em high’
The obverse and the reverse of one state
And deconstruction, through an artist’s eye
Provides the insight needed to create.
We learn to build and this may bring renown,
But when you’re little, start with ‘knock-‘em-down’.
