In an earlier post I wrote that I was dissatisfied with the final couplet in this sonnet.
Here’s a better one.
Registration
Robin Ford, January 2019
At registration we were unprepared
That eve’ning we began to sort it out.
By half-past nine and feeling slightly scared
I went to bed still harbouring a doubt.
My sleep was broken, it had not been sound.
“That spreadsheet will be difficult to keep.“
Half dreaming, I devised a work-around.
“I’ll fix it in the morning; back to sleep.”
By sunrise I was ready to begin.
I got that spreadsheet in a better state.
The clock was running, margins would be thin.
Quick breakfast and we shouldn’t be too late.
It’s vital that we check for this event:
Insurance, sailing number, child consent.
