(poem) A (mis)interpretation of space-time

A (mis)interpretation of space-time

Robin Ford, January 2016 after his mind was bamboozled in Welwyn Garden City

Note    This runs to the rhythms of Ghost Riders in the Sky.

A wise old man with frizzy hair wrote something quite sublime.
“If you should change the place you’re at, you’ll also change the time.”
Activities are catalogued by people, time and place.
And memories are triggered by
Location and a face.

Though phone and Skype and Facebook all can serve you very well,
There’s nothing can beat being there for calling up a spell
That searches out old memories from corners of my mind.
Remembered meets the present time
Completely intertwined.

The wise old man with frizzy hair had to his topic warmed.

“If there is matter near to you then space-time is deformed.”
“And matter that is big enough will make things fall its way.”
So what is now and what was then
Is difficult to say.

Iconic Georgian windows framed a view across the street.
A strange deracination had me feeling incomplete.
And seeking out a ref’rence point, though no such things exist,
I stared out through the window panes
Into the morning mist.
