“…and they followed a star.”
Robin Ford December 2015
A fully featured sat-nav came with our rental car.
It promised to direct us to places near and far.
It took us to the great M1, through places hard to find,
But when it got to Derbyshire it seemed to lose its mind.
It couldn’t find the cottage that we’d rented for a while,
Requiring us to travel on for mile after mile.
And, later, when we asked the thing to plot a journey back,
It couldn’t find the famed M1 – it took a diff’rent tack.
It passed the slow M25 with nothing much to say,
It just advised “keep straight ahead for all the live-long day.”
We turned the sat-nav off right then, in terminal disgrace.
Two iPhones and an Android put it firmly in its place.
The navigation troika was entirely on the task,
The calmly expert driver – all he had to do was ask.
All in the zone, and inwardly accepting of our fate,
we reached our destination only twenty minutes late.
