(poem) Nursery rhymes for petrol heads 14. Electric performance (A chant)

Electric performance

This rhythmic pattern is based on a chant from a singing game.

| Think when you | put |

| Foot to the | floor |

| How many | amps your | car will | draw|

| As you | speed |

| Down the | track |

| Feel a steady | push up-| on your | back |

Glossary

Amps   Amperes (or amps) measure electric current. The power supplied by a battery is the product of amps and volts (just as the power from a motor is the product of torque and speed). At maximum acceleration an electric car is drawing the maximum permitted current from each one of its pack of batteries. Sometimes the limit is imposed by the maximum the battery can supply: sometimes by the maximum that the motor(s) can accept. Either way amps imply ‘grunt’
