Sing a song of sixpence
Sing a song of sixpence, a pocket full of rye
Four and twenty blackbirds, baked in a pie.
When the pie was opened the birds began to sing
Wasn’t that a dainty dish to put before a king?
The king was in his counting house, counting out his money.
The queen was in the parlour, eating bread and honey.
The maid was in the garden, hanging out the clothes
When down came a blackbird and pecked off her nose.
Drag race
Sing a song of nitro, a V8 under stress
Warming up the tyres and trying to impress.
Now the race is starting, the pedal hits the floor.
Smell the rubber catching fire and hear the engine roar.
The driver’s in the driving seat, in a screaming hurry.
The team is by the pit lane trying not to worry.
And once the race is over, parachutes deploy.
Oh what a lot of hassle for five seconds of pure joy.
Glossary
Nitro ‘Top fuel’ dragsters run on a cocktail of up to 90% nitromethane (the rest is usually methanol).
Warming up the tyres To maximise traction, tyres are warmed up before a drag-race by doing a burn-out; it’s no doubt an opportunity to psych out an opponent too.
