Derbyshire love-song
Robin Ford, October 2014
He waits on the platform in high expectation
She waits for the young man to make up his mind.
They tenderly meet and they walk off together
Unsure in that moment of what they will find.
They carry their pack over Derbyshire farmland,
Carry their pack by the banks of the Dove.
Move closer together, grow closer together
But they didn’t talk then of love.
He stands on a style with a child in a backpack,
She stands, with a child, at the base of the wall.
Lit up by low sun over snow-covered farmland
Entranced by a beauty they’d always recall.
In just a few days they’d set out on a journey,
Find an old land and make a new start.
But Derbyshire country will always be near them
Always be dear to their heart.
