(poem) This is the day

Robin Ford October 2014

When I last used my travel pass
a strange man asked
“May I enquire
If you’ve been told it will expire.”
I asked him “When?”
He said “Don’t know.”
I said “I thought it was for life.”
He said “Quite so.”

I bought a cappuccino next
With frothy milk and luscious brew.
I knew precisely what I’d do.
I pushed my lips
Right through the foam
And took a long, sustaining draught
……….And then went home.
