(poem) Someone older and wiser

Someone older and wiser

Robin Ford, November 2017

He judges faith by how a life displays —
The fundamental precepts it might hold.
Evangelistic, lively, full of praise;
Or non-committal, weak, or lost, or cold.
He asked, “Do you think man caused global warming?”
My intellect says, “Chances are it’s true.”
Yet somehow, soon I find myself conforming,
And doing what most other people do.
An economic framework or a guide
Would keep us on a careful carbon budget,
So there would no place for me to hide
Were I to try a swifty and to fudge it.
It’s sad; we need encouragement or stricture
To add our efforts to the carbon picture.
